Professor Vesna Brujic-Okretic

About

I am a Professor of Computer Science with background in engineering and physics. My expertise is in the area of augmented and virtual reality - with applications ranging from unmanned vehicle navigation to real-time integration of complex data forms into systems supporting decision making process. Recent completions include an intelligent urban transport system application in the context of Smart Cities.

The School of Computer Science and Mathematics continues to perform strongly in both its education portfolio and in research. Our cyber security centre has become a national Academic Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Education, achieving a Silver Award by the National Cyber Security Centre (GCHQ) - taking the cyber security agenda vigorously forward within and beyond the University.  The School's performance is reflected in the REF2021 results, with 73% of our research rated as world-leading or internationally excellent  (4* or 3*) and in The Guardian League Table for 2023 - it is placed in the top 37% of computer science departments in the UK.

The School offers a programme of modern and popular courses in computer science, data science, user experience design, cyber security, games programming and digital media technologies - at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. From 2023, an undergraduate course in Artificial Intelligence will be launched - matching the areas of strength in the School's research.
