Dr Jie Deng

About

I am currently a Senior Lecturer in Built Environment at Kingston University, School of Engineering and the Environment. Prior to this, I was a Lecturer in Green Technology & Sustainability at the UWL from June 2022. I conducted a couple of years' postdoctoral research at the University of Reading (2018-2021) and Heriot-Watt University (2017) in the UK, with a focus on building performance simulation, urban thermal environment, and solar thermal. Apart from academic roles in the UK, I also had a couple of years overseas research experience in building technology and solar thermal application in buildings (Guest Researcher at Technical University of Denmark, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark, 2015-2016; Research Assistant Professor in Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, 2014-2016; Postdoc at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China, 2011-2013). In research, I have authored 30+ international peer-reviewed journal paper publications (most in Q1 quartile journals) in the related areas. My research interests cover a wide range of topics within sustainable technologies in the built environment.

For professional membership, I'm a registered Chartered Engineer (CEng), and have been elected as Fellow of Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (FCIBSE). In teaching, I've achieved PGCert in teaching and learning in Higher Education and Fellow of Higher Education Academy (FHEA). My teaching experience encompasses sustainable building and construction technology, building physics, environmental science in buildings, building services, renewable energy systems, engineering mathematics. At Kingston, I am currently dedicated to teaching a suite of courses, including Construction Engineering Management BSc (Hons), Building Surveying BSc & MSC (Hons), Quantity Surveying BSc & MSc (Hons).

My professional passion is to pursue sustainable technology innovation in the built environment that helps to benefit real world in the UK higher education context, with a view to cultivating next generation of intelligent construction engineers and project managers in sustainable technologies in the built environment.
