About
I am a professor of civil engineering with over 30 years of experience working in higher education. I have held teaching, research, and leadership positions at three universities, including leadership and management positions as Faculty Lead for Apprenticeship and Academic Partnerships (2022–), University Head of Apprenticeships (2018–21), Head of Schools (2023–, 2009–18), Faculty Lead for International Relations and engagement (2012–15), and Director of Engineering Research (2009–11) at Kingston University.
I am a chartered engineer (CEng), a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, a member of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation, a fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining and was also registered as a chartered scientist (CSci, 2001–15).
I have worked extensively with different sectors of the industry, primarily focused on developing creative, practical solutions and addressing knowledge and skills gaps through the apprenticeship trailblazer group, Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education (Construction & the Built Environment Route Panel member), University Vocational Awards Council (Director), and Joint Board of Moderators (JBM Board Deputy Chair and Sub-committee Chair).
For many years, I have also played an active role in quality assurance, enhancement, and academic career development, nationally and internationally. I have worked as an external examiner and quality assessor, as well as conducting validations and accreditations (JBM), CEng Professional Reviewer, and Apprenticeship End Point Assessor (ICE).
My research interests include the advancement of concrete technology, waste materials recycling for reuse, construction materials, smart cities for citizen well-being, and sustainable and resilient built environments. I have published 15 books / conference proceedings, over 100 peer-reviewed papers with 4000+ citations, 26 h-index, 39 i10-index, and successfully supervised over 50 PhD and post-doctoral researchers so far. An expert evaluator of the research projects submitted for EU funding.
For the last four years, I have been named in the World's Top 2% Scientists list as the most-cited outputs in the field of "Building & Construction" published by Stanford University.

Formulated and led applied research for advancement in the fields of cement science, concrete technology, waste material recycling and reuse, structural design and repair/maintenance, renewable energy, sustainable and resilient built environment- of late addressing climate crisis.
As the Faculty (of Engineering, Computing and the Environment) Lead, I coordinate and provide leadership for the current and future development, and delivery of the apprenticeships and transnational education offerings, ensuring high-quality compliant delivery for a positive impact for our students and business community aligned to agreed KPIs. I support the Faculty Dean and PVC in steering strategic engagement and partnerships in the UK and overseas through evidence-based and impact focused advances for strong and resilient collaboration.
Executive level engagements, as a Deputy Chair and Board Member of the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) – formed by the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers, Institute of Highways Engineer, Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation and Permanent Way Institute to coordinate accreditation activities for the educational programmes in the civil, structural, transportation and associated engineering disciplines within the built environment sector.
