Completion of my PhD in Psychology at King's College London in 2002 was followed by visiting lectureship at City University London. I joined Kingston University in 2002 as a Lecturer in Psychology. I held an Honorary Research Fellow position with Kings' College Hospital in London (2014-2016) and was a Visiting Professor of Psychology at Sigmund Freud University, Milan, Italy (2016-2021).

My expertise lies in clinical and health psychology. I am interested in the self-regulatory processes involved in the psychological adjustment to negative experiences. These self-regulatory processes involve metacognitive beliefs, cognitive, behavioural, attentional and emotion regulation strategies.
My research to date has contributed to the field of psychological theory and therapy though the development of metacognitive models and interventions for addictive behaviours, procrastination, and self-esteem. My work has also focussed on examining the impact of negative events during the perinatal period (miscarriage, high-risk preeclampsia status). Most recently, I have conducted research on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people's mental health and behaviours.
