About
I am a senior lecturer in learning disabilities nursing in the Faculty of Health, Science, Social Care and Education. I teach across the school on pre-registration nursing and nursing associate programmes.
Having completed my pre-registration nursing education at Kingston and St George's in 2002, I went on to work in a variety of community services for adults with a learning disability across London, most recently in Tower Hamlets, before coming back to Kingston to educate and inspire the next generation of nurses.
I have a particular interest and focus on the needs of, and services for, people with a learning disability who have concurrent mental health issues, as well as the development and sustainability of the learning disabilities workforce. I work across the Nursing Associate (apprentice and FDSci) programmes to ensure that they are educated to understand the needs of, and support, people with a learning disability.
I believe passionately in the skills and power of learning disabilities nurses to change lives, and help people with a learning disability and those who support them to understand, maintain and improve their health status.

In Autumn 2021 I successfully bid for CPEP (Clinical Placements Enhancement Programme) funding from HEE London to develop and deliver a simulated placement resource in Learning Disability for Nursing students across the region. We developed and filmed clinical scenarios in collaboration with the Baked Bean Company, a performing arts organisation for people with a learning disability. The scenarios have been successfully piloted, and we are currently developing a proposal to scale up the resources and delivery.
