About
Michelle is a registered nurse. She holds a BSc in health studies and an MSc in nursing studies. She has a Senior Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy. In 2017 she won the Kingston Teaching Fellowship Award. Michelle set up a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) called Nurses Reaching Out (NRO) which gained charity status in 2018. Working in Northern Uganda, NRO is concerned with improving patient experience, the environment of care and ongoing nursing knowledge and education. Michelle was awarded staff social entrepreneur 2014 for this work, which also includes offering student nurses elective placement experience in Uganda. Michelle is a member of the editorial board for the British Journal of Nursing. Her key areas of teaching interest include: care of older adults, long term conditions and global health. Michelle is currently lead for student nurse national and international electives. She is also a liaison lecturer for Spire St Anthony's hospital, St Raphael's hospice and Western Sussex.
