Water consumption
There’s a growing need for us all to use less water. Find out our plans for reducing water use and promoting water efficiency, as we aim to reduce our impact on the environment.

Reduce your carbon footprint and help local ecosystems
Many aspects of our University operations use water, but we are committed to reducing water use and promoting water efficiency.
As part of our commitment to promoting water efficiency, we provide free drinking water at our catering outlets and other locations across our campus sites. You can do your bit here too by carrying a re-usable water bottle with you to help reduce single-use plastic waste.
In our effort to reduce water use, the Estates and Sustainability Team actively monitors water usage to identify and fix leaks within buildings and below ground.
Plus, water-saving devices, such as low flow taps and flushing toilets and waterless urinals, have been installed across our campus sites. You can find them in the following locations:
- Services Building
- Town House
- Knights Park Tower Block
- The New Extension
Did you know a dripping tap can waste up to 10,000 litres of water per year? That's more than one full bathtub each week!
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Our practices tie in with the United Nations SDGs, which aim to transform our world and promote prosperity for all while protecting our planet.
Our policy on water consumption supports 'Clean water and sanitation' and 'Responsible consumption and production'.
