About
I'm a poet, writer and performer working in the literary, modernist and avant-garde traditions. I've published ten collections of poetry, over twenty publications of limited edition poetry, art and collaborative works and been commissioned by Tate Modern, BBC Radio 3, The British Council, Tate Britain, Liverpool Biennial and Wellcome Collection amongst others for texts, performances and installations.
Since joining Kingston in 2014 I've been teaching on multiple courses, with a focus on poetry, and especially proud of the extraordinary work students have produced on my Experiments and Innovations programme, many of whom have gone on to take poetry / writing / art as a vocation. I've also included many dozens of students in live events and exhibitions in London and the Kingston area. I'm pleased to be the director of the Kingston Writers' Centre too.
Qualifications
- MA Philosophy, University of London
- BA Philosophy, University of Durham
Domains
I'm interested in world literature and the contemporary poetry scene, as such my work is often internationally orientated - I've been been translated into 23 languages and performed at venues across the world, from Mexico, Iraq, Peru, India, Argentina, China, Georgia, Bangladesh and many European nations.
I've pioneered collaborative literary practise and curating live events. I've put on over 700 events in 24 countries around the world with the Enemies project.
My other research interests include neuroaesthetics, language and the brain, masculinity, combat sports, conceptual art, performance art and the intersections of different creative mediums.
I'm interested in supporting new writers too, and have been poetry editor of 3am magazine for over five years.
