About
I am an artist, illustrator and educator working on both commissioned and self-initiated projects. I am interested in the role of play in art and design, collaboration, conditional design, performance, the relationship between text and image, narrative and sequence and self-publishing. My work manifests itself through multiple outputs including painting, collage, ceramics, drawing, print, books and self-published zines.
I have exhibited work in London, Liverpool, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Bastia in Corsica and Húsavík in Iceland. As an Illustrator I have worked for a variety of clients including - the Victoria & Albert Museum, Bloomberg Businessweek, Nobrow, Eye magazine, Time Out, the New York Times and the L.A Times.
In 2017 Tate Publishing published the children's activity book 'Meet the Artist: Alberto Giacometti' Which introduces young artists to the world of Alberto Giacometti through a variety of fun drawing and making activities.
Qualifications
- BA Illustration & Animation, Kingston University
Domains
I am the year leader for Level 4 BA Illustration Animation. I run the module IA4004 Studio: Introductory Principles.
Courses taught
My recent practice is concerned with line, shape and form translated through the disciplines / mediums of painting, collage, drawing and ceramics. Exploring the fine line between abstract and figurative compositions. Humour and character. Play and order.
This has informed my research which is concerned with the role of play alongside 'Conditional design'. Exploring the intuitive aspect of making versus utilising limitations and conditions with which to make work within.
Other research strands include collaboration, performance, the relationship between text and image, narrative and sequence, and self-publishing.
