About
I lead the School of Education, Midwifery and Social Work, with strategic responsibility for the portfolio, research, knowledge exchange, people, and budget. My school leadership group and I aim to provide impactful professional education that makes our students sought after, and helps those they work with to thrive. I am a member of both our Faculty and University's Senior Leadership Group, and the Chair of our Faculty's Education, Diversity, and Inclusion Action Group.
I have worked in higher education since 2004, starting as a lecturer in citizenship education at UCL Institute of Education, University of London before moving onto course leadership roles at London Metropolitan University and then head of initial teacher education at Goldsmiths, University of London. I joined Kingston University in 2015 as Head of School of Education, before founding the new multi-disciplinary school I currently lead in 2020. My background is in history, politics, and citizenship secondary school teaching.
I was a member of the Citizenship subject expert panel for the introduction of the 2008 and 2014 National Curriculum, and was consultant and project lead from 2007-2010 for the KS3 Exemplification of Citizenship Standards project for the Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency.
I am Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Association for Citizenship Teaching, and trustee and Chair of the Educational Standards Committee for the Coombe Academy Trust. I represent Kingston University on the University Alliance ITE leads group.
My academic activity focuses on social transformation through education, specifically in relation to citizenship education, teacher agency and innovation in curriculum design.
