About
I am an Associate Professor in Education: Research and Learning and Teaching, School Co-Director of Research, and Programme Leader of the Doctor of Education (EdD) at the School of Education, Midwifery and Social Work. I joined Kingston University in October 2015. Before I moved to Kingston, I worked at Plymouth University as a Lecturer in Education with a specialism in primary mathematics. Before that, I was a primary school teacher for more than 20 years in various primary schools in Greece and the UK.
My current role involves research, course and module leadership, teaching, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate research projects and doctoral students (EdD and PhD), conducting research, leading research projects and research grant applications, and supporting the research activity within the School and the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education.
My research activity combines two complex areas: mathematics education and gifted education. It concerns issues regarding teaching and learning mathematics at higher cognitive levels for raising the achievement of all students, issues about nurturing mathematical promise, and issues regarding educating students with exceptional abilities and complex needs. My research in the area of gifted and mathematics education has been exploring school practice in primary schools since 2008. My research on gifted education has recently focused on twice-exceptional students and their educational needs and underachievement in mathematics.
