This lecture focuses on an object of Native Alaska material culture in the Estonian History Museum in Tallinn: an incised whale tooth depicting hunters pursuing marine mammals. It places the iconography within the global context of Unangax and Sugpiaq art histories during the Russian colonial occupation of Alaska between the 1730s and 1860s.
