Chancerygate Foundation Bursary

The Chancerygate Foundation Bursary provides a grant of up to £10,000 per year for each year of study. This will cover the essential costs of living and studying, such as accommodation, books and equipment. The bursary will not be used towards teaching fees.

Eligibility criteria

You must meet all of the following criteria:

In addition, you must meet one of the following:

  • You are the first generation in your family to progress to higher education (i.e., your parents have not been to university, although if a brother or sister has, you are still eligible).
  • You identify yourself as being disabled or having a specific learning difference.
  • You have spent time in care in the UK, been placed in care or are estranged from your family. Find out more about the support available for care leavers at Kingston.
  • You are recognised by social services as a young adult carer.
  • You are entering Higher Education with a BTEC as your main qualification.
  • You are a mature student (aged 21 years or over on 1 September before you start your course) who does not currently hold a bachelors degree.

How to apply

All the following information must be included as part of your online application. Please note: incomplete applications, such as those missing any of the required information below, will not be processed.

Personal Statement (maximum 500 words)

  • Your academic strength and achievements.
  • Why you want to study at Kingston University.
  • What you hope to go on to do once you have completed your course.
  • How you can benefit from financial support and what you intend to do with the financial support you receive.

When to apply

Applications close at 23.30 (UK time) on Sunday 31 August 2025.

All applications received by the deadline will be given equal consideration and are not assessed on a first-come-first-served basis.

Prior to the award being given, shortlisted applicants will also be expected to attend two interviews with the Chancerygate Foundation in early September, one online and another on campus (w/c 9 September). Please be sure to keep your schedule free in order to attend.

The Chancerygate Foundation Bursary Committee makes the final decision on applications and does not correspond with applicants and their decision is final. All applications will be emailed with a final decision in w/c 12 September.

Additional information

Please note, in addition to the financial bursary, the recipient will also be given the opportunity to undertake career opportunities by Chancerygate Foundation in the form of internships and work placements. You will also be required to work in partnership with University staff to keep the Chancerygate Foundation updated with your academic progression throughout your course.
