I am an experienced Senior Lecturer in Adult Nursing, with a background in Cardiac Care Nursing. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings, including Coronary Care, Heart and Lung Transplant, Cardiothoracic Surgery and, with a Rapid Response Team which supported early discharge from hospital and prevention of admission. I am interested in exploring this further via the concept of the Virtual Ward. These combined experiences have fostered my dual interest in acute care and secondary prevention.
I have clinical experience as both a Nurse and Practice Educator. I have a teaching qualification registered with the NMC and am interested in developing alternative ways to support people in learning, whether that is clinical staff, nursing students or service users. As part of my MA in Education, I conducted a small scale research project to consider the use of art to facilitate emotional debriefing of undergraduate nursing students following clinical placement. I presented my research at the RCN International Education Conference in 2017, and have successfully had my research published in the Journal of Research in Nursing in 2019. Subsequently, I like to incorporate the use of art into my module teaching and am interested in developing this theme further.
My most recent clinical experiences have been during the Covid 19 Pandemic, working as a Vaccinator and Vaccine Centre Manager. This has given me the skills and experience in managing a rapidly changing programme at community level. I am looking forward to using this experience to foster resilience and problem-solving skills in those that I teach.
