I am a Senior Lecturer in the captivating field of Mental Health Nursing at Kingston University. With over two decades of immersive experience, I have travelled through the dynamic landscape of clinical and management roles in mental health services. I have worked in acute inpatient care and community care settings. Along this path, I've had the privilege of caring for adult patients and young people, including children and adolescents, who navigate the complexities of mental health.
In my professional journey I have gained proficiency in British Sign Language, with substantial experience in the specialist area of mental health and deafness. Beyond this, I have completed a variety of training courses, including psychotherapeutic models designed to foster holistic support for people with mental health conditions and their families.
In my teaching role, I serve as a module leader, guiding both undergraduate and postgraduate students on their journeys across the diverse fields of nursing. My role also extends to leadership in collaborating closely with clinical leads, practice staff, and academic Link Lecturers to provide support to students, practice supervisors, and assessors in the dedicated practice areas within mental health Trusts.
While I have a wide knowledge, expertise and experience in healthcare, my main areas of interest are in child and adolescent mental health and also in social justice issues to break barriers and foster inclusivity in academia and in healthcare - where I seek to make a profound impact. Currently, I'm embarking on an exciting journey as a doctorate candidate, investigating the academic experiences of ethnically diverse students in higher education.
