About

I currently run the Transition Strand Studio in the Second Year that explores new and emerging processes within graphic design. Embracing the notion that graphic design as a discipline is in constant evolution, responding to new tools, new contexts, and new spaces, the strand functions as an ongoing conversation around the impact of this on the role of the designer. Students on the strand are encouraged to explore what this means to them, and to build exploratory projects that start to define their position. Design today occupies many different spaces – it needs to move, respond to interaction, respond to data, and occupy both physical and online spaces, and the strand is about helping students start to navigate this.

My own practice is multifaceted, and I work as designer/art director, creative coder, developer and consultant. My work has encompassed many different areas including identity design, design for the web/online, printed matter and poster campaigns, film titles and type design. I have worked with varied clients and collaborators, often in the cultural, tech and education spaces. Examples of clients/collaborators have included tech startups, universities, filmmakers, architects, fashion designers, video production companies, members' clubs, restaurants, music festivals, writers and non profits.

Alongside my teaching at the university, I have also taught extensively in the tech education space, teaching companies and leadership teams around the world, covering areas such as innovation and design thinking, coding, data science and machine learning/AI, cybersecurity, blockchain as well as working with organisations to deliver digital transformation programmes and education across global teams.
