James Hughes

About

As a Senior Lecturer in Education specialising in Early Childhood Education and Care, I bring a wealth of experience to my role as course leader for the FdA in Early Years. My academic journey, which began with a BA (Hons) in Early Childhood Studies from the University of Greenwich, has been complemented by a PGCE from the University of Roehampton and a recently completed Senior Leader Apprenticeship (PGDip). I'm set to further enhance my qualifications with an MBA in Education this September.

My professional career spans over a decade of teaching within early years classrooms, where I've led numerous school-based initiatives and curriculum developments. I'm a passionate advocate for play-based learning, having successfully implemented free-flow EYFS provision in Year 1 and special needs settings.

As a firm believer in outdoor learning, I've pioneered innovative approaches, including the establishment of a school farm. This dynamic outdoor classroom has allowed me to craft an exciting curriculum that integrates farm-based experiences with core academic concepts, fostering hands-on learning and environmental stewardship. This approach not only enriches pupils' educational journeys but also instils a deep appreciation for nature and sustainable practices.
