Dr Zishang Zhu

About

I am a Lecturer and Researcher with a specialisation in Building Energy and Environment Performance Analysis, Data-Driven Optimisation, Renewable Energy Integration in Buildings, Low-Carbon Retrofitting of Building Stocks, and Indoor Environmental Comfort. I have held various positions at Kingston University, the University of Hull, and other esteemed research institutes, where I have gained comprehensive experience in research, teaching, and engineering practice.

In my teaching career, I have developed and delivered MSc programs when worked as MSc Program Leader. On the research front, I have worked as a Principal Investigator (PI), Co-Investigator (Co-PI), and Named Researcher on numerous research projects funded by  EPSRC, Innovate UK, BEIS, and the EU H2020. These projects have focused on advancing sustainable building technologies, energy-saving strategies, and the low-carbon transformation of building stocks. I have also served as Deputy Director of two research centres, where I manage complex research initiatives and drive collaborations with industry and academic partners.

My engineering practice experience includes leading and contributing to over 20 projects focused on building energy efficiency, low-carbon retrofitting, and carbon footprint assessments. These projects have delivered impactful solutions for reducing energy consumption, enhancing environmental performance, and achieving sustainability targets in various building sectors.

My work bridges the gap between academia and industry, bringing cutting-edge research into practical applications that benefit both the built environment and society as a whole.
