Here are two students' experiences of the Volunteers Inspiring People via Sport programme:
"The University's VIPS scheme was great. As a result of taking part I gained a Level 1 Football Coaching Award with Surrey FA and was placed with Kiddikicks football academy, which enabled me to put my new skills straight into action. I have since delivered more than 190 hours of volunteering for Kiddikicks, which has given me the opportunity to work with more than 300 kids to inspire them and teach them football skills whilst getting them to enjoy active lifestyles. This experience has been fantastic in terms of enhancing my CV and Kiddikicks were so impressed with my volunteering contributions that I have now secured a job as a paid football coach!"
"I signed up to the University's VIPS scheme with an interest in golf. As a result I gained a Level 1 Golf Coaching Award with the Surrey Golf Partnership. I was appointed the role of golf activator and introduced weekly ‘street golf' sessions in and around the University. I clocked up more than 120 hours of volunteering at times that suited me. I organised golf trips to local driving ranges and par three courses along with some great social events such as ‘speed dating golf' and a ‘UV golf night'. I am proud to say that I have played a significant role in getting more than 400 people to enjoy an active lifestyle by taking up a golfing activity. I have met some great people along the way and gained valuable experiences and skills to enhance my CV. I was thrilled to then also be rewarded with the Volunteer of the Year trophy in recognition of all of this!"
