About Sport and Active Lifestyles

Sport and Active Lifestyles is part of the Student Wellbeing Group within the Services for Students Directorate that seeks to:

  • Provide opportunities for members of our community to improve their health and wellbeing through being physically active.
  • Contribute to the personal development of our students through sport.
  • Encourage participation in physical activity, from informal recreational activity through to high performance sport.

We are responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the Sport and Active Lifestyles strand of the Student Wellbeing Strategy (PDF) as well as working closely with Health & Wellbeing and Faith & Spirituality in delivering the overall strategic objectives and vision of the group.

Primarily, we are responsible for the management of the University's sports facilities and sports development programmes. This includes:

We currently have in place five key Community Sports Partnerships with local sports clubs. We also work with a wide range of external sporting organisations and other clubs, to make a significant contribution to the development of sport within the local community.

We also support the work of colleagues in the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and the Environment, particularly in relation to the delivery of related academic programmes, and work with a broad variety of external partners, including other educational establishments and organisations, the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames and several sports governing bodies.
