Romantic relationship breakup can have a strong impact on mental health. Men find it difficult to express and process feelings arising from such significant life-events because of masculine gender norms. It can bring feelings of shame and impact their self-esteem. Issues of identity can also arise. Autobiographical therapeutic performance (ATP) plays an important role in processing current life crisis and transforming the identity.
The aim of this study is to explore the role and interplay of self-esteem and masculinity in mental health of men participating in autobiographical therapeutic performance after relationship breakup.
I am a Dramatherapist, registered with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) UK. I have worked with children and adults with ASD, disabilities and mental health in social care, SEN school and National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, and with homeless men and women in recovery shelters in India, where I offered group and individual Dramatherapy sessions and facilitated play groups, and process groups. I have also taught at Christ University NCR Campus, and National School of Drama (TIE Wing) in India. I am currently working as a Therapeutic Practitioner for children and youth at Groundwork London in UK.
I enriched my repertoire by practicing theatre for more than two decades in India, where I wrote, devised and directed plays with children and youth and acted in many plays. I worked with children, teachers, youth and adults using process drama in different settings including schools, colleges and NGOs.
