My project aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the environmental protection afforded by the UK regulatory regime in relation to the marine plastic pollution. My main question relates to the UK ambitions to remain a global leader in addressing environmental challenges post-Brexit. Most of the UK environmental law was based on the European law, and following the withdrawal, the environment became potentially more vulnerable than other areas of law which benefit from more strictly defined legal interests.
I have extensive work experience in private banking sector where I worked since 2007-2016. Between 2013-2016, in a move to change my career I read international law, and in 2016, I joined Kingston University as a law lecturer. In 2018, I have also taught on undergraduate and postgraduate courses at Croydon College.
Alongside my academic career, in 2017 I worked at Bison Solicitors as an HR Manager whilst completing my masters degree in counter fraud and counter corruption at University of Portsmouth. Between 2018-2022 I also worked as a local government officer within the family support and private sector housing enforcement. In 2018, I founded Plastic Free Woking community group to raise awareness about unnecessary single use plastics and plastic pollution in general. Through our campaign, Woking Borough Council adopted Single Use Plastics policy in 2019.
