Research project: Cantillon's Essai

Abstract

In my project, I have endeavoured to analyse and examine Richard Cantillon's Essai within the socio-political and economic environment of Britain of his own day, and compare and contrast, when possible, his ideas and views with his contemporaries.  Therefore, I aim to read the Cantillon as an economist and his magnum opus, the Essai, as a textbook of early 18th century Britain, by deliberately refraining from comparing him with later economists and his book with more modern accounts.
