Research project: FinTech: A Financial Inclusion Strategy for Women in Developing Economies.

Abstract

Financial Technology (FinTech) has significant potential to provide the poor and vulnerable, especially women, with access to financial services and help them escape the clutches of poverty. Emphasis on financial inclusion for women is trending because it offers a multi-trillion dollar opportunity. Providing women with access to essential financial services such as banking and credit can foster their financial independence and boost any nation's economy. Majority of the research on financial inclusion focused on the determinants of access to financial services. Few attempts have been made to examine the challenges women face while trying to access these services. This research will contribute to literature by evaluating the difficulties that women in developing economies encounter as they seek to access and use financial services. It will also explore FinTech as a driver of financial inclusion and how it can be deployed to serve the financial needs of women efficiently.
