Kingston University wins double KTP award to fund wireless communications project

Kingston University is delighted to announce a new partnership with Vocality International Ltd, an IP communications company based near Guildford.

A knowledge transfer partnership (KTP) grant worth £262,000 has been awarded to develop new technologies enabling seamless, ubiquitous connectivity over wireless technologies.

The technology will assess the quality of available communication channels including 3G, 4G, WiFI and satellite in real time and on the basis of the information gathered will select the fastest or most cost effective route. The solution will switch seamlessly between channels enabling users to optimise connectivity regardless of location. These new developments will have relevance to a number of key markets including government, military and the private sector.

Recruitment will begin shortly for two KTP "Associates" to work on parallel projects run by Professor Maria Martini and Professor Christos Politis, with support from Dr Eckhard Pfluegel from the School of Computing and Information Systems within Kingston's Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing.

"Vocality are excited to be partnering with Kingston University, a relationship that will bring additional technical expertise from the University into the business whilst allowing the University access to industry leading technology developments. This unique mutual relationship ensures continued development of next generation adaptive and intelligent wireless technologies," says Susan Harvey, CEO, Vocality International.

2015 celebrates 40 years of KTP, a government funded programme helping businesses to improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills that reside within UK universities and research institutions.
