New business partnerships for Kingston University

KTPThe School of Science, Engineering and Computing is delighted to announce new Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs).

  • Rayner Intraocular Lenses Limited is a leader in the development and manufacture of intraocular lenses – lenses which are implanted in the eye to treat cataracts or sight problems. The 24-month project will develop an artificial human eye model simulating real conditions in order to investigate new and existing intraocular products and materials.
  • Lerch Bates is a leading firm of independent consulting engineers specialising in the short range movement of people and materials, for example in lifts, escalators and window cleaning equipment. Recent projects involve consultancy on leading-edge technology for London's tallest building, The Shard. The nine-month project will develop and establish software to allow for the low-cost remote collection, translation and transfer of lift and escalator information (such as recording faults) over the internet.

The aim of knowledge transfer is to encourage innovation and improve the effectiveness of an organisation through collaboration with a university. The government-funded scheme can fund up to 60% of your project costs and usually involves a three-way partnership between a company, an academic or academic team, and a highly skilled graduate.
