Kingston University's careers and employability team has been shortlisted for an Association of Graduate Recruiters award which recognises higher education institutions for outstanding commitment to improving the employability and long-term career success of their graduates. Kingston has been nominated in the category "Overall strategy for preparation for work".

Being shortlisted underpins Kingston's commitment to supporting their students through a professional, proactive and innovative careers and employability service.

Kingston runs events such as 'Careers Uncovered' and ‘Spotlight on...' which focus on functions and industries such as media, marketing and product design.

Sir Trevor McDonald OBE spoke recently at a Spotlight on Media event which attracted firms including the Financial Times, Haymarket, Which magazine, News Associates and Random House.

From October to December last year, the careers and employability service brought 155 employers on campus. Their proactive approach has meant that, despite the economic downturn, more employers than ever before are engaging with Kingston University.

Simon Pollard, Emerging Talent Manager at HSBC, recently observed that the Kingston careers and employability service has "a tremendous desire to be innovative and develop new concepts to capture the interest and engagement of their students. The events and meetings I attend at Kingston are always organised to the highest standard and attract a good volume of potential candidates to introduce to my organisation".

In addition, Kingston run boot camps which support students applying for internships, placements and graduate roles. This service also acts as a recruitment consultant for potential employers, using the close relationship between employees and students to recommend specific students for actual roles.

Tonia Galati, head of the careers and employability service at Kingston, said: "To be nominated for this award is great recognition of the work that we do; we are totally committed to offering both our students and employers a professional service which serves the needs of both groups. We like to think we give our students an edge in the job market and also provide employers with confident, intelligent and innovative employees".
