Eight Kingston University academics have been selected to play a key role in helping identify the country's brightest emerging research talent as part of a new fellowship set up by national funding agency UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
The Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) will support early career researchers and innovators with outstanding potential in universities, United Kingdom registered businesses or other research environments. The programme has been designed to grow the supply of talented individuals needed to ensure British research and innovation continues to be world class.
To assess applications for support, UKRI has set up a peer review college and a panel review college, made up of high profile researchers or innovation professionals deemed to have the necessary level of experience in their field. Nominations for members were sought and among those appointed to the peer review college are eight academics from across the University's four Faculties, who, along with the college's other members, will provide expert insight and ensure proposals receive an appropriate number of reviews as part of the peer review process.

The University's Head of Research Funding, Dr Juliet Parry, said the appointments demonstrated the profile of the University's research community as well as the institution's commitment to supporting and nurturing world class research throughout the institution. "The expertise of these leading academics from across the University will be instrumental in helping identify the next generation of talented researchers that should be supported through this scheme," she said.
The fellowship is one of several funding schemes announced by UKRI since its inception in April, when the duties of the former Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) were split between UKRI and another newly formed body, the Office for Students.
