Postgraduate researchers from the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing recently shared some of the latest cutting edge research being undertaken at the University, during two student conferences held in June.
Taking place during Kingston University's annual Research Week, the postgraduate conferences were hosted, organised and delivered by the students themselves.
Some 24 students presented their work to an audience of more than 100 students and staff in the Inter-disciplinary Hub for the Study of Health and Age related Conditions (IhSHA) Student Research Conference, taking place for the fourth consecutive year.
The event covered seven themes - diabetes and cardiovascular; cancer; vision, cognition and neuroscience; drug discovery, delivery and patient care; infection and immunity; sport, exercise, nutrition and public health; and ambient assisted living.
The second conference saw researchers from the Digital Information Research Centre and the Centre for Engineering, Environment and Society Research join forces to delivering their first student research conference. A total of 13 students presented on a wide range of topics.
Established with the aim of gathering researchers from a variety of disciplines to promote and showcase research at Kingston University, the SEC postgraduate student conferences also aim to support students in their personal and academic development.
Representatives from the Student Organising Committee stated how organising the conference gave them the opportunity to develop a wider range of skills, from organisation and budgeting to time keeping and overall project management, while those presenting learned more about communicating their work to a broader audience.
As part of the conferences and to acknowledge the high level of quality and effort of those who took part, researchers presenting across the two events were assessed by a panel of judges, with prizes awarded to the top three in each category.
