Dean's dinner celebrates alumni volunteering at Kingston

Posted Monday 21 March 2016

On 9 March 2016, we held the very first dinner for alumni volunteers of the Faculty of Business and Law to thank them for their invaluable support. The event was hosted by the Dean, Professor Ronald Tuninga.

35 alumni and 11 members of staff joined us for a lovely three-course meal and enjoyed engaging conversations around the table.

The evening started with a networking reception and lecture by recently appointed Professor of Business, Environment and Law, Stuart Harrop. Professor Harrop spoke about climate change, its legal implications and the impact it has on society and businesses.

Later in the evening, the Dean gave a speech highlighting recent successes and developments at the Faculty of Business and Law. He also outlined the Faculty's exciting plans for an innovative new undergraduate degree programme with integrated placements starting this September. Professor Tuninga asked the alumni for their support in securing 600 placements for Kingston students.

The dinner was a great opportunity to celebrate volunteering at Kingston and emphasize the huge difference our alumni make by sharing their time, advice and experience with students and staff.

Last year alone, over 100 alumni of the Faculty of Business and Law volunteered more than 800 hours in almost 200 volunteering jobs.

Between them, they have mentored dozens of students, given guest lectures, helped at career events, judged competitions, advised on strategy and course development, promoted Kingston and supported the Faculty in progressing plans for the new undergraduate programme – just to name a few of the vital activities our alumni have been involved in.

Feedback on the volunteers' dinner has been overwhelmingly positive and we hope to be holding a similar event in 2017.

In the meantime, if you would like to get involved, please visit our volunteering pages to stay informed about upcoming opportunities and keep an eye out for further announcements over the next few months.
