Kingston alumnus Gordon Foat is preparing for his annual drive across Europe – powered by solar energy.
Green MotorSport was founded by the Kingston University Environmental Science graduate in 2001, and was the first company specifically set up to research 'green motor sport'. Gordon has been dedicated to providing clean transport solutions as well as cost-effective electric motor systems ever since.
Gordon and his team are preparing for the World Advanced Vehicle Expedition (WAVE) – the largest electric vehicle rally in the world – and aims to show that electric vehicles powered by renewable energies are available and a great solution for our future.
The team has joined the WAVE every year including the first, when they collected three prizes. The following year, Gordon was presented with the People and Environment Achievement award 2012 for sustainable sport.
Two, solar-powered electric cars, designed and built by Green MotorSport will set off on 13 June from Plauen near Berlin and join the WAVE in a difficult off-road terrain to finish in the high Alps on 21 June.
Throughout the 20 towns and four countries the WAVE will travel through, the expedition will pause to give demonstrations to schools, local business, government offices and communities about the merits of sustainable energy and the solar-powered vehicles can play in the global drive to conserve energy and protect the environment.
