The programme has been running for four years and FASS was delighted to sign an agreement for a further three years during a formal ceremony at County Hall with Chungcheongbuk-Do's governor of Education; Professor Martin McQuillan, dean of FASS; and Dr David Mackintosh, senior deputy vice-chancellor.
After a traditional tea, the group was joined by a delegation of officials from the Chungcheongbuk-Do educational authority, the 20 visiting Korean teachers, plus colleagues from FASS and Enterprise for speeches and to exchange official gifts.
Governor Kim and his delegation were in Europe to gain insight into education systems across four countries. After the ceremony, the party enjoyed a tour of Kingston with course leader Alex Linghorn, which ended with a highly-praised lunch at the new Korean restaurant, Mommy's Food on Eden Street.
They then visited Ashley Church of England School in Walton, a top performing primary school and one of the world's leading eco schools. They were fascinated by the differences between the child-centred, theme-based learning experience at Ashley and Korea's more traditional, formal textbook approach to education. They were particularly impressed that the head teacher knew all 420 children by name!
"We greatly value the Kingston University Korean Teachers' Programme for its expertise in developing our teachers and we always receive excellent feedback from our teachers on the programme," Young Rok Oh, education supervisor, Chungcheongbuk-do office of education said.
Later this year, Kingston Business School and the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture (FADA) will again be welcoming students from Saudi Arabia and China. We are seeking more international leads for intensive programmes and summer schools for students and professionals, such as English language teachers. These courses are an excellent way to promote Kingston abroad and constitute an important revenue stream for the University.
If you would like any further information or to discuss any potential opportunities, please contact your faculty's Business Development manager.
Kingston University holds several residential programmes with English language for international students and professionals. Find out more about our bespoke international programmes or contact enterprise@kingston.ac.uk.
