Kingston University runs a number of successful equality mentoring schemes for second year students; they are designed to improve the success of under-represented groups in university studies and in gaining employment.
The schemes offer invaluable support to students through one-to-one mentoring with a professional in the workplace. Our mentors too feel they have benefitted enormously from the scheme on a professional level as well as the satisfaction gained from 'giving back'.
As our alumnus, we would like to offer you the opportunity to become a mentor, especially as our students have expressed how valuable this is to them.
We currently deliver four student mentoring schemes:
The schemes are part of our equality, diversity and inclusion strategy and help us deliver some of our equality objectives.
We expect 12 hours of contact time during a six-month period (ending June 2015).
This can be a combination of face to face, over the telephone and via email. We would expect that the mentee has the opportunity to visit your workplace as this exposes the student to new environments.
The time given by you would be voluntary; you will receive free training and will have the opportunity to network with mentors from other companies.
