The impact on the University's ecosystems will also be greatly enhanced. Amongst many others, smooth newts, caddisflies and dazzling southern hawker dragonflies have been recorded this year. And as the pond's health continues to improve with regular management the habitat will naturally become more diverse and attract a greater range of wildlife, and who knows, perhaps a former resident will return, the incredibly rare great crested newt.
