Enhancing the student experience and inspiring the next generation of environmentalists

Through your generous contributions to the Opportunities Fund, a new pond-dipping platform has been installed at the Kingston Hill campus. Indeed, the search for pond life is a serious business here at Kingston. Not only will this give invaluable hands-on experience to our bio students, but with biodiversity increasingly on the curriculum for schools, the platform will help our student teachers learn how to teach pond-dipping.

The impact on the University's ecosystems will also be greatly enhanced. Amongst many others, smooth newts, caddisflies and dazzling southern hawker dragonflies have been recorded this year. And as the pond's health continues to improve with regular management the habitat will naturally become more diverse and attract a greater range of wildlife, and who knows, perhaps a former resident will return, the incredibly rare great crested newt.
