Kingston University attended the fifth annual South London Business Awards, organised by Prospects Business Support (formerly South London Business), at the Riverbank Plaza Hotel in central London.

Kingston's business development manager for the Faculty of Business and Law, Kathryn Elliott, judged the Best Business for Training and Development category and watched BBC radio's James Cannon present the award to Flemmings, a Croydon-based international accountancy firm.

Sumitra Shah, Flemmings' training manager said: "We are extremely grateful for receiving the award sponsored by Kingston University. As a small chartered accountancy practice, during the past 24 years we have trained almost 200 people to become highly qualified accountants, many of whom have gone on to hold high-level positions in larger organisations. This award belongs to all our staff, past and present whose passion and commitment for training has contributed to the success of Flemmings."

Attended by 350 guests, the event showcased the high quality of business from all 12 London boroughs.

Sir Bob Scott, chairman of South London Business Council, said: "The winners tonight represent a massive part of the South London and the British economy which, despite two and a half dips, is continuing to generate prosperity."

Kingston University is also sponsoring the Best Creative and Media Sector category in the Kingston Chamber of Commerce's Kingston Business Excellence Awards 2013 which will be held in October.
