Kingston University publishing expert. the Reverend Professor Alison Baverstock, has received an MBE in the King's Birthday honours in recognition of her work supporting Armed Forces families through the Reading Force scheme.

An academic expert from Kingston University has been honoured with a prestigious award for exceptional service from the Royal Society of Chemistry, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the organisation as a volunteer in the field of chemistry. Dr Baljit Thatti, the University's Head of Department for Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, was selected for the annual award, which recognises volunteers who have made a personal impact by contributing to the Society through a variety of voluntary roles.

Kingston University has been awarded a Bronze Race Equality Charter Mark recognising the institution's ongoing commitment and action to improve race equity for our staff and students. Advance HE's Race Equality Charter (REC) aims to help universities and research institutes in their work to improve the representation, progression and success of Black, Asian and minority ethnic people in higher education.

Laura Johncock is a critical care nurse who recently graduated from Kingston University, having completed a course in intensive care, and is deaf. To mark Deaf Awareness Week (6-12 May 2024), she describes her experiences on the course and working in the NHS as someone with hearing loss and explains how she overcame barriers to realise her dreams of becoming a nurse.

Kingston University has launched a pilot project to raise awareness of neurodiversity and make learning spaces more inclusive and supportive for neurodivergent students and staff. Recognising the value of neurodiversity as a natural aspect of human variation, the initiative seeks to foster inclusivity and support the diverse needs of all learners by understanding systemic barriers and attempting to remove them. It is led by Kingston's Inclusion and Social Justice Special Interest Group (SIG) and academics from the school of Education, Midwifery and Social Work and is supported by the Network of Equality Champions.

For Carers Trust's Young Carers Action Day (13 March), they spoke about the challenges they face juggling caring responsibilities with their studies and daily life, as well as the support Kingston has provided them.
