PhD chemistry graduates tie the knot after Kingston University proves the perfect match

A graduate husband and wife who realised they had a special chemistry after meeting in the first year of their Kingston University PhDs, have marked the completion of their studies crossing the stage to resounding applause in a ceremony at London's Twickenham Stadium. Tomris Coban, 30, and Cameron Robertson, 29, from Surbiton, south west London, met in the early stages of their three-year PhD programmes after being placed in the same research group in the University's Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing.

A leading advocate for engineering, well known for championing the need for more women and girls to enter the profession, has received an honorary degree from Kingston University. Chief Executive Officer of Operations for Pure Data Centre Group and president of the Women's Engineering Society Dawn Childs was named an Honorary Doctor of Science during a graduation ceremony for the University's Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing at Twickenham Stadium.

 Kingston University rises in research power tables in latest Research Excellence Framework

Seventy per cent of Kingston University's research has been rated as world-leading or internationally excellent in the Government's latest Research Excellence Framework (REF). The results represent a 10 per cent increase in the percentage of Kingston's world-leading or internationally excellent research from the previous assessment, published in 2014, with the University's overall grade point average rising to 2.89, up from 2.7 eight years ago.

Almost 5,000 graduates are gearing up to celebrate their academic achievements at the home of rugby as the first Kingston University graduation ceremonies in more than two years kick off this week at Twickenham Stadium. The undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students are the first in Kingston's history to have their graduation ceremonies at the venue, and will collect their awards in a suite next door to one of the most famous rugby pitches in the world, after the University decided it wanted to honour students who have had their graduations delayed in a special one-off celebration at Twickenham.

Kingston University engineering students set to put new racing car through its paces ahead of this year's Formula Student competition

Preparations for this year's Formula Student competition are well underway, with student engineers from Kingston University getting ready to take on teams from around the globe at Silverstone in July. Last year, the Kingston Racing team secured the institution's best-ever finish after a fantastic effort in the endurance event at the home of British motorsport. It helped take Kingston University to seventh place overall, a huge improvement on the previous finish of 69th place out of 80 in the 2019 event.

Kingston University's Town House carries off highest accolade in European architecture, winning prestigious EU Mies van der Rohe Award

Kingston University's Town House building has been named winner of the EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award, the highest accolade in European architecture. The latest recognition for Town House places the landmark building in illustrious company as one of only three UK winners of the prestigious European Union prize. Its success also marks the first time a university building has won the award and cements its international status after it carried off the coveted RIBA Stirling Prize in 2021.
