This course is for absolute beginners. It aims to give learners a basic knowledge of reading, listening, spoken and written skills in a dynamic and communicative way, through individual, pair and group work and studio-based and authentic texts. The focus is on accuracy as well as communication.

This course is designed to provide near-beginners with the foreign language skills to enable them to interact satisfactorily in survival situations and social encounters in the foreign country and to be aware of related aspects of the foreign culture and environment.

This module is designed to develop the language competency already acquired by students. It focuses on developing the levels of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Students will improve and consolidate the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary acquired previously. The module also engages with aspects of the language's culture and society as it aims to provide students with a wider context for language learning.

This module is designed to reactivate and build on the student's previous knowledge of the target language. It aims to equip students with further linguistic skills, to enable them to communicate in a number of familiar work and social situations and respond accordingly, and to broaden students' awareness of aspects of the foreign culture. It focuses on developing the levels of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Students will improve and consolidate the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary acquired previously.
- Entry requirements: completion of Level 3 or one year's prior language learning or equivalent of level A1 of CEFR
- Level 4 module is offered in October 2024 and January 2025

This module will consolidate and develop existing linguistic skills in speaking, reading, listening and writing. Students will increase their vocabulary, be able to use more complex structures, become aware of register and deepen their awareness of aspects of the foreign culture and work environment. Students will improve and consolidate the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary acquired previously.

- Level 5 module is offered in January 2025

This module further develops the reading, speaking, writing and listening skills practised in previous courses. It emphasizes communication and comprehension, but also builds on the grammar base acquired in previous modules. It focuses on developing the levels of communication in all four skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Students will improve and consolidate the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary acquired previously.

- Level 6 module will be offered in October 2024

- Method of delivery: Face-to-face at Penrhyn Road
This module will consolidate and develop existing linguistic skills in speaking, reading, listening and writing. Students will increase their vocabulary, be able to use more complex structures and become more aware of register and also consolidate and deepen their awareness of aspects of the foreign culture. Students will gain confidence and ability in oral communication through guided discussion, and individual and group presentations. Students will be given writing tasks such as short essays, guided writing activities and grammar revision exercises. Some translation and summary work will also be undertaken, working from the target language source into English. Audio and written materials will be used to widen their knowledge of life in target language speaking countries.

- Level 7 module is not offered in January 2025. This module will be offered next academic year 2025/26
This module is for students who have achieved the equivalent of level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
The emphasis is on achieving an advanced level of communication and accuracy in speaking, listening, reading and writing in both formal and informal registers. Communication skills which will be developed include discussion, interview techniques and presentation skills, reporting skills and writing a report.

This module is for students who have completed KLS level 8 or achieved the equivalent of level B2.1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
