Traditional acupuncture is a healthcare system based on ancient principles which go back nearly 2,000 years. It has a very positive model of good health and function, and looks at pain and illness as a sign that the body is out of balance.
The overall aim of acupuncture treatment is to restore the body's equilibrium. What makes this system so uniquely suited to modern life is that the physical, emotional and mental elements are seen as interdependent and reflect what many people perceive as the connection between the different aspects of their lives.
Acupuncture is widely considered beneficial for a range of illnesses and symptoms, from clearly-defined complaints to more general feelings of ill health and low energy.
Many people come to acupuncture for help with specific symptoms such as stress and anxiety, or to relieve pain. Some use acupuncture because they feel generally unwell, but have no obvious diagnosis; others choose acupuncture to simply enhance their feeling of wellbeing.
Acupuncture is considered suitable for all ages and it can be used effectively alongside conventional medicine.
