Our philosophy team teach research-intensive postgraduate masters programmes and research degrees. It has an international reputation for innovation and excellence in teaching and research. All staff and students are members of the Centre for Research in Modern European Philosophy (CRMEP), the leading centre for postgraduate-level study and doctoral research in 'continental' philosophy in the UK.
We run four MA programmes. Each programme has a distinctive set of aims and priorities, while offering cross-programme compatibility to enable fertile connections among students and staff with a wide range of interests and backgrounds.
We also offer MRes, MPhil and PhD research degrees. The CRMEP has a research degree community of 25-35 PhD students of whom about one third study part-time.
All teaching staff have international reputations for their publications and regularly speak at conferences and other events in the UK, Europe and beyond.
With regular research events, on and off campus, frequent visits from major philosophers and young academics in Modern European Philosophy from the UK and abroad, institutional collaborations (with other universities and arts organisations), the team offers students the opportunity to become part of a lively, engaged and sociable graduate community committed to research in contemporary European philosophy.
