Global Governance of the Environment, Indigenous Peoples and the Rights of Nature: Extractive Industries in the Ecuadorian Amazon Seminar by Dr Linda Etchart

Abstract: Linda will provide an overview of her book on global governance of the environment which explores the obstacles facing indigenous communities, non-governmental organizations, governments, and international institutions in their attempts to protect the cultures of indigenous peoples and the world's remaining rainforests.

Who this talk is aimed at: Staff, students and members of the public who are interested in environmental and social issues, particularly in relation to the extractive industries.

Bio: Linda Etchart is a lecturer in Human Geography at the University of Kingston, UK. She has published work on conflict transformation, post-conflict reconstruction, women's peace movements, transnational networks, and indigenous environmental activism. She worked for an intergovernmental organization from 2001 to 2004.
