This event is a part of a series of seminars organised by the Law, Technology and Society Research Group and welcomes Professor Evgeny Pashentsev, from the Institute of Contemporary International Studies, Diplomatic Academy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. He will deliver a presentation entitled 'Artificial Intelligence – opportunities & risks', in which he will will analyse new opportunities and threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI).

Increasingly complex algorithms currently influence our lives more than ever. Well known examples include smartphones, internet search engines, financial markets, traffic control systems, and many more.  The areas of AI application are diverse and their capacity constantly improves. The operation of AI algorithms, for the most part, proceed without incident, but the potential damages can have terrifying consequences and, therefore, should not be ignored. The seminar will cover certain legal, ethical, and technical threats and challenges posed by AI.
