International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year. From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. Balance drives a better working world. Right now is a great and important time in history to do everything possible to help forge gender balance. Ground is being made across many areas - yet there is still much work to do.
As Kingston participates in International Women's Day 2019, work is continuing to challenge bias, support women's advancement and openly celebrate achievement.
The International Women's Day 2019 campaign theme, 'Balance for Better', is a call-to-action for driving gender balance throughout the world.
This 2 hour session will signal the close of events that have taken place in the borough in schools, colleges, the university, the fire stations, business, politics, culture and music, sport and the voluntary sector.
An introduction by Cllr Liz Green, Leader of Kingston Council, Cllrs Sharon Young and Katrina Lidbetter will be followed by short talks from a panel of women with their inspirational stories. Highlights from a range of borough wide activities will be on display. Light refreshments and an opportunity to network will conclude the evening celebration.
