Research dialogues

Research is a dialogue - with our peers, our predecessors, and ourselves. Presenting our research is often also a type of dialogue: whether as part of a conference, an exhibition, or a performance we are trying to communicate with an audience. Through talks, discussions, a concert and over wine we will be exploring some of the dialogues that underpin research activities.

The event will begin with two talks given by Guido Orgs and Jane Pavitt, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Oded Ben-Tal, and will conclude with a concert at 5.30pm followed by wine and nibbles at 7.00pm.

Dr. Guido Orgs (Psychology, Goldsmiths) will discuss how he combines his dual background as a professional dancer and psychology researcher to investigate synchronisation in performance and its relationship with aesthetic evaluation.

Professor Jane Pavitt (Kingston School of Art) will share her extensive experience about museum-based research and the interdisciplinary and collaborative dialogues that take place at the interface of museums and academia.

The event is organised by Dr. Oded Ben-Tal (Music, Kingston University),  a composer and researcher working at the intersection of music, computing, and cognition. His compositions include both acoustic pieces and works combining instruments with electronics and multimedia work. Since 2016 he has been working on a multidisciplinary research project applying state of the art machine learning to music composition.
