I joined Kingston University in 1992 and have had a number of previous roles including course director of GIS programmes, head of the Educational Technology Unit (ETU), head of e-learning and deputy director of the Academic Development Centre. As head of the ETU and subsequently as head of e-learning I provided academic leadership for the implementation and development of the institutional learning technologies infrastructure and strategy including the institutional virtual learning environment (VLE), virtual classroom technologies, social networking environment and institutional blog environment. I started my academic career in the University of London working on computer modelling of northern North Sea geology, and lecturing in both geomorphology and geographical information systems (GIS).
I hold a Geology and Geography BSc(Hons), a PhD in Aeolian Processes and I am a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
My research interests lie primarily in the area of technologies in learning and teaching, particularly in terms of mobile and personal technologies in both formal and informal learning.
