Kingston University ranked top 10 in country in seven subject areas and among top 60 overall in 2024 Guardian University Guide

Kingston University has been named one of the top 10 institutions in the country in seven subject areas and one of the top 60 institutions nationally in this years' Guardian University Guide.

The Guide's publication has seen the University once again ranked second in the United Kingdom and top in London for fashion and textiles. Meanwhile, it has come in at third overall for general nursing, also carrying off the honour of being top in England in this subject area.

Elsewhere, Kingston has been rated fifth in the UK for graphic design, sixth for children's nursing and seventh for midwifery, also topping the capital in each of these categories. The University earned tenth place nationally in media and film studies and mental health nursing, where it was second and third in London respectively.

Overall, the University came in at 58 out of 122 institutions in the national newspaper's institutional tables. It was also the third highest post-92 university in London.

The Guardian ranks institutions from across the United Kingdom using eight key measures covering all stages of the student lifecycle, alongside league tables for 66 subject areas. Its methodology takes into account student satisfaction, resources, entry standards and how likely students are to exceed expectations of success and have positive outcomes after graduation.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Steven Spier said the recognition of the University as one of the sector leaders across several subject areas evidenced its commitment to ensuring its students received the highest quality teaching and learning during their degree studies.

"This achievement comes at a particularly exciting time for the University, as we prepare to roll out our Future Skills programme to all new undergraduate students joining the institution this autumn," Professor Spier said.

"At Kingston University, we are leading the way in delivering a progressive new model of higher education as part of our Town House Strategy. The launch of Future Skills modules is a milestone that will ensure all our students are equipped with the future-proofed skills needed for career success by the time they graduate."

The University's Future Skills programme has also been singled out for special mention in the newly published Daily Mail University Guide, with the newspaper highlighting that its launch across all undergraduate courses this month would give students the skills most valued by employers.

Elsewhere within a profile piece focusing on the University, the Daily Mail also noted that approximately half of Kingston's students were the first in their families to progress on to higher education. It hailed this as "an impressive figure in the capital, where university take-up was among the highest in the UK", crediting the achievement to targeted outreach work the University undertakes with thousands of school children from backgrounds under-represented on campus.

Kingston was ranked 87 overall out of 128 institutions in the Daily Mail's inaugural league tables, which rate universities on their performance across the student experience, teaching quality, research and graduate outcomes.
